Last week was Lifehacker's 8th birthday, and to celebrate we asked you to help us come up with some of the best Lifehacker tips and guides of all time. You gave us way too many great posts, both old and new, than we possibly had room to highlight, but in the end we managed to narrow it down to these five most popular tips and guides. We put them to an all-out vote, and now we're back to highlight the winner.
Voting was surprisingly tight this time around, with the winners and losers sometimes only being separated by a handful of votes! Fold a t-shirt in two seconds, based on the video shown here and this original post, took the top spot with just under 30% of the overall vote.
Hot on its heels in second place with 26% of the vote was our guide to build a silent, stand-alone XBMC media center on the cheap, using a tiny, low-power net-top (that these days could be replaced by an even more powerful model, or even a Raspberry Pi!) Two votes behind in third place was our suggestion to fill your dresser drawers from front to back instead of top to bottom, with just under 26% of the votes cast. Votes fell off for fourth and fifth place though: in fourth with over 10% of the vote was how to tie your shoes faster with the Ian knot, and bringing up the rear in fifth was how to save bundles of cash by buying your eyeglasses online with over 8% of the overall vote.
Remember, for more detail, links to other times we've posted these tips, and more information on any of these posts, head back to the Hive Five feature itself to read more. Here's to eight great years!
The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it?it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest, but if you have a favorite, we want to hear about it. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!
